Zamfara Police command sensitizes citizens on community policing

The Zamfara State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, psc+, has successfully conducted a two-day sensitization programme on Community Policing and Campus Safety.
The event, held from 30th to 31st July 2025 in Talata Mafara, specifically targeted returning and newly admitted students of tertiary institutions within Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
The statement issued by DSP Yazid Abubakar anipr, Police Public Relations Officer, Zamfara State Police Command to journalists in Gusau portrayed that the sensitization programme brought together a broad range of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, security agencies, academic leaders, and students.
The initiative was aimed at strengthening collaboration and raising awareness on critical issues affecting campus’ safety and broader community security.
His Royal Highness, the Emir of Mafara, Dr. Bello Muhammad Barmo, OON, Sarkin Mafara, graced the event and offered his royal blessings. In his address, he underscored the vital role of peace, unity, and youth responsibility in driving sustainable community development.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of Zamfara State University, Prof. Y. Zakari, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. B.B. Kasim, urged students to collaborate closely with the police and other security stakeholders to ensure a safe and conducive academic environment.
Also speaking at the event, the Rector of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Dr. Suraj Abdullahi, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to addressing security challenges through continuous sensitisation and active student participation.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Salisu Bello Fargo, psc, delivered the opening remarks. He stated that the event aligns with the Inspector General of Police’s renewed vision for modern, community-driven policing. He further emphasized the importance of dialogue, trust-building, and mutual understanding between the police and the public as essential strategies for promoting peace and security.
The sessions were facilitated by seasoned officers of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with experienced academic professionals from various tertiary institutions across the state.
The Zamfara State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to engaging communities especially youths and students through meaningful dialogue and proactive initiatives aimed at fostering lasting peace, safety, and development throughout Zamfara State.
