Lagos Film, Video Censors Board, Plotweaver launch AI-Powered Youth Storytelling Competition

In a bid to inspire creativity and promote cultural storytelling among young people, the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board (LSFVCB) has partnered with technology firm Plotweaver to launch an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven storytelling competition for youths aged 13 to 20.
The initiative was formally announced by the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSFVCB, Mrs. Adebukola Agbaminoja, during a press conference held on Thursday in Ikeja, Lagos. She explained that the competition is aimed at nurturing the storytelling talents of Lagos youth by offering them an engaging platform to express their creativity and share their unique narratives.
“This competition is designed to nurture and harness the creative talents of Lagos State’s youth through the art of storytelling,” Agbaminoja said. “It targets students between the ages of 13 and 20, and it aims to inspire a love for storytelling while encouraging authentic artistic expression among adolescents.”
She emphasized the transformative impact of storytelling on young lives and encouraged parents, guardians, educators, and students to take advantage of the initiative during the holiday season. According to her, the project offers a more productive alternative to idleness, allowing children to engage in purposeful creative development.
“The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board remains committed to promoting and regulating the film and video industry while supporting initiatives that drive human development within the sector,” Agbaminoja added.
She described storytelling as a vital tool for preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and for building a sustainable creative economy in Lagos. The innovation, powered by AI tools from Plotweaver, is designed to empower young storytellers through modern content creation technologies.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Oteme Oyo, Project Lead for the Lagos Youth Storytelling Competition, noted that Plotweaver would serve as the technical evaluator, ensuring that submitted stories are culturally relevant and commercially viable. “This competition is an opportunity to showcase Artificial Intelligence as a force for good in storytelling,” he said.
Mr. Ojo Olumuyiwa Johnson, Chief Partnership Officer at Plotweaver, added that the competition is a transformative platform that not only helps preserve cultural heritage but also builds the next generation of creative leaders.
“It’s about telling Nigerian stories with global appeal—stories that start from Lagos and reach audiences around the world,” Johnson said.
The competition is expected to attract a large number of youth participants and contribute meaningfully to the state’s growing creative economy.
