Gov Abiodun, Makinde strategize on Food Security, Regional Safety

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has emphasized the need to deepen economic cooperation with Oyo State, particularly in agriculture and security, to enhance food production and ensure safety across both states.

Governor Abiodun made this known after a strategic meeting with his Oyo State counterpart, Governor Seyi Makinde, held behind closed doors at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan on Tuesday. The discussion focused on addressing shared concerns regarding food security and safety in the two neighboring states.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Governor Abiodun noted the long standing cultural, historical, and economic ties between Ogun and Oyo states, which he said provide a strong foundation for mutual collaboration.

“I came to consult with my brother, Governor Seyi Makinde, on issues of mutual interest. Ogun and Oyo were part of the former Western Region, with Ibadan as the capital, and we share deep cultural and economic connections,” he stated.

He stressed the importance of leveraging these ties to promote food sovereignty in the region. “We continue to attract major investors, and with the close proximity of our states, now is the right time to strengthen our partnership in agriculture and ensure food security. Our discussion focused on how we can boost regional food production growing what we eat and eating what we grow so our region becomes Nigeria’s breadbasket.”

Governor Abiodun commended Oyo State’s strides in agriculture and noted that Ogun is also advancing agricultural development through strategic initiatives in areas like Odeda, Imeko, and Yewa North, all of which border Oyo State.

Highlighting the importance of security to economic progress, the governor praised the Southwest Security Network, Amotekun, for its role in providing critical intelligence and support that enhance safety in the region.
