The National Political Consultative Group (NPCG), on Saturday, July 26, 2025, convened a crucial meeting on the theme “Peace and Social Cohesion: A Panacea for Challenges in the North,” held at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

Delivering the keynote address, Senator David Mark, Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Party (ADC), emphasized the urgency of unity and social connection as fundamental solutions to the deep-rooted issues confronting Northern Nigeria.

“It is both an honor and a necessity to speak today on a matter that defines our presence and may shape our future. The North, a land blessed with rich history and immense diversity, now faces challenges threatening its stability, ranging from weakening state authority, poverty, ethnic and religious tensions, to political and social fragmentation,” Senator Mark stated.

He stressed that these issues cannot be wished away but must be tackled through collective resolve. “We must admit we are the architects of our own problems. Coalitions and collaborative efforts are the only way to address the enormous challenges facing the North, and indeed Nigeria at large,” he added.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a communiqué was issued endorsing the African Democratic Party (ADC) as a growing political force with the capacity to offer real solutions. The group emphasized the importance of internal democracy, equity, and fairness within the party structure.

As preparations for upcoming by-elections intensify, the ADC reaffirmed its position as a credible opposition party. Participants noted that the party’s rising influence is already attracting interest from other political entities seeking to form alliances. Members and supporters were urged to ignore acts of intimidation and focus instead on building a formidable political platform to challenge the status quo.
