FG declares July 15 public holiday in honour of late President Buhari

The Federal Government (FG) has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honor of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. This declaration is part of the seven-day national mourning period announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following Buhari’s passing on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Dr Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Interior on Monday.
The national morning which started from July 13, 2025, when he died mourning will last for seven days and all national flags will fly at half-mast across the country during this period.
An emergency Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 15, to honor the late president and the FG will accord Buhari a full state funeral, recognizing his significant contributions to Nigeria.
President Tinubu has praised Buhari’s dedication to Nigeria, describing him as “a patriot, a soldier, a statesman” who led with “quiet strength, profound integrity, and an unshakable belief in Nigeria’s potential.”
The National Assembly has suspended its activities in respect of the late president.
Various political figures and groups have extended condolences to the Buhari family and the people of Nigeria.
