INEC to commence Continuous Voter Registration in Akwa Ibom ahead of 2027 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Akwa Ibom State as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during his maiden media briefing on Wednesday at the INEC State Headquarters in Uyo, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Obo Effanga, disclosed that the online phase of the registration will commence on August 18, 2025, with physical registration set to follow across INEC local government offices from August 25.
Mr. Effanga urged eligible voters to begin the registration process online and complete it at designated INEC offices where biometric data such as fingerprints and photographs will be captured.
“This is not different from what we did ahead of the 2023 elections. INEC has provided an online portal where people can begin their registration. After initiating the process online, they will need to come to our offices for the physical capture of their biometrics,” he explained.
The CVR exercise will also accommodate voters who wish to make corrections to personal information on their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), transfer their registration to another polling unit, or reprint lost cards. Mr. Effanga emphasized that these services can also be initiated online for the convenience of voters.
“For those who didn’t collect their cards previously or who wish to update their information, like correcting names or changing polling units, they can do so online. But from the 25th of August, walk-in services will also be available at all INEC local government offices,” he added.
The REC warned against multiple registrations, stressing that duplicate entries could invalidate a person’s registration. He advised individuals who have lost their PVCs to apply for reprints rather than attempting a fresh registration.
INEC’s voter registration portal will be accessible to all eligible Nigerians residing in Akwa Ibom State once the exercise begins. The initiative is part of the commission’s efforts to ensure a credible and inclusive electoral process ahead of the 2027 elections.
