Group appeals for efforts to curb flood disaster in Mokwa

A group known as Mokwa Flood Relief Support has appealed to the federal and state governments for an urgent concerted effort to end flood disaster and the attendant loss of lives and property in Mokwa, Nigeria state.
The group spoke through its Secretary, Barrister Suleiman Ndaguye in a statement made available to Newsmen in Minna.
This appeal is coming in the wake of the flood disaster that occurred in the Town which claimed many lives and destroyed property worth billions of naira and rendered many residents homeless.
The Group’s Chairman, Rtd Assistant Controller-General of Customs Alhaji Ahmed Nasir, noted that the flood disaster indicated the urgency to address key concerns that is beyond relief measure.
The statement urged the Federal Government and Niger State Government should institute proactive action plans and undertake infrastructure improvements to address flooding menace in Mokwa Town.
Ahmed Nasir said the Mokwa Flood Relief Support Group appreciates the Federal Government and commended President Ahmed Tunubu for approving N2billion (two billion naira) resettlement fund and 20 trucks of grains for the flood victims as well as a transformer for Mokwa Town.
The Group also appreciated Governor Muhammad Umar Bago of Niger State for playing a pivotal role in the timely rescue process and provision of emergency relief materials and prompt treatment of the victims.
It expressed readiness to work with the Federal and the Niger State Governments to actualize the plan of resettling the flood victims and providing needed infrastructure, while appealing to the Niger State Government to include members of the Group in the State Government’s resettlement committee.
