Diphtheria Outbreak; Schools in Aboh Mbaise set to resume –LG Chairman

Schools in Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo State will resume academic activities June, 11th, 2025, following a directive from the Executive Chairman, Barr. Iheukwumere Alaribe.

The announcement came after health authorities confirmed the containment of the recent diphtheria outbreak that disrupted academic activities in the area

In a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Dike Godspower, Hon. Alaribe reassured residents of the safety measures in place.

He said, “The health and safety of our children remain our top priority.”

“With clear reports from our health workers and school administrators indicating that the situation is under control, we believe it is now safe to reopen our schools.”

“To prevent any recurrence of the disease, the council mandated strict compliance with health protocols.

“Among the measures is the requirement for all students to present valid vaccination records before being admitted back into classrooms.

“School administrators were directed to monitor for any potential health issues and report them promptly.

“We urge parents, teachers, and community members to work together in implementing these guidelines. This collective effort will ensure that our schools remain safe and conducive for learning”.
