NUJ supporting drive for food sufficiency in Abia state-Eze Mbah

The Chairman Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, Eze Udo1 of Ata Igboukwu Kingdom, Umuzomgbo Ihechiowa in Arochukwu LGA, has commended Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Abia state Chapter, for supporting the drive for food sufficiency in Abia state.
He gave this commendation at the 1st Abia NUJ Agric show 2025 with the theme “Fighting food insecurity through practical Agriculture”, held at the Police Officers Mess Umuahia on Tuesday.
“As a farmer, I understand the importance of the media in promoting government policies, especially through policies that support the farmers and production of Agricultural produce,” Eze Mba said.
He commended Abia State NUJ for coming up with this noble program, which is unprecedented and equally aimed at promoting an agricultural policy of Governor Alex Otti’s administration.
The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Boniface Iheanyichukwu Ariekpere, chairman and CEO of Omamma Life Saving and Health Foundation, called on Nigerians to go back to the farm as a hungry man is an angry man and promised to support Abia NUJ in all their programs, especially those concerning Agricultural production.
In his keynote address, Dr. Chris Nwagboso, lecturer, Department of Public Administration, University of Calabar and CEO, Kritznely Farms Limited, said that God blesses people who work with their hands and called on the government to invest in Agriculture as our internal security depends on Agriculture, “We don’t lack manpower, what we are lacking is assistance from the government.”
In his goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, said that the University has lived up to its mandate and promised to partner with NUJ to move Agriculture to envious heights in Nigeria.
Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State chapter, Comrade Chidi Asonye, said that the 1st Abia NUJ Agric show is a bold step forward and a timely intervention in our collective quest to confront the scourge of food insecurity with boldness, purpose, and unity.
“As Journalists, we are chroniclers of reality, but we are also agents of change. We decided it was time to go beyond reporting agricultural decline, it was time to be a catalyst for its revival.
“This Agric show is therefore our response to a national emergency, the growing threat of hunger in a nation rich in arable land and resilient people.It is our humble contribution to the effort to fight food insecurity headlong through practical agricultural activities, not just in speeches, but in sowing seeds, cultivating partnership, and reaping solutions,”Comrade Asonye stated.
The highlights of Abia NUJ median Agric show includes Lectures, Exhibitions and special recognition of select farmers who have distinguished themselves in Agric business in Abia state and beyond.
