The Regy and Henry Amazing Grace Foundation (RHAGF) has concluded a two-week skills training program for residents of the Jabu community in Abuja. The program ran from May 20 to 31, 2025.

It was a breathtaking moment in the Jabu community on Saturday, May 31, 2025, as children as young as four, five, and seven years old demonstrated remarkable learning abilities. Some mastered skills such as sewing, tailoring, and hair braiding in just two weeks of training organized by RHAGF.

The program, which aimed to empower disadvantaged individuals—including women and children—provided training in various skills such as sewing, tailoring, hair braiding, and soap and cake production.

Speaking at the event to mark the end of the training—coinciding with her 50th birthday—the National Coordinator of RHAGF, Dr. Regina Duru, expressed her joy and appreciation for the overwhelming support that made it possible to empower the young children.

“What better way to celebrate my 50th birthday than to see 4, 5, and 7-year-old boys and girls braiding hair, sewing, and baking cakes? What RHAGF has done is build your capabilities and give you a platform to learn and acquire skills. That is what we have done,” Dr. Duru said.

She further stated, “Regy and Henry Amazing Grace Foundation is an organization built on hope—for the vulnerable and for the hopeless.”

Established in 2009, the organization has worked across various communities in the Federal Capital Territory. “We have worked in over 20 communities. Wherever we go, we leave our mark of impact. Today, in Jabu, our mark is what you have learned. I’m impressed that this training, which started two weeks ago on May 20 and ends today, May 31, 2025, has yielded such results,” she added.

Continuing, she said, “You have been able to assert yourselves in different things. It is truly amazing.” She urged the trainees not to let their newly acquired skills go to waste.

“Don’t keep what you’ve learned to yourself. You cannot expect the government to knock on your door and ask you to learn something. The skills you’ve acquired here are things people pay a lot of money to learn, but you received them for free, thanks to RHAGF,” Dr. Duru emphasized.

RHAGF, she explained, is supported by friends and family and has consistently touched lives through its initiatives. She shared the experience of a 64-year-old woman trained by RHAGF seven years ago who has since used her skills to transform her community.

“Seven years ago, a 64-year-old unskilled woman was trained by RHAGF. Today, at 71, she has stepped down from the training. Her husband, children, grandchildren—and even her entire community—have benefitted from her. She is now the only person producing souvenirs in that community,” Dr. Duru revealed.

Dr. Duru used the opportunity of her birthday celebration—which also marked the conclusion of the training—to thank all those who have supported RHAGF financially and materially over the years.

Those who witnessed the dual celebration included Mr. Chaplain Johnson Chukwurah, Executive Director of EL-Rakhun Foundation; Madam Sarah Odugbo from the FCT Education Secretariat; Pharm. Mrs. Agwunobi C.; Barr. Lucky Sati, Manager of Master Eye Security Services Ltd, Abuja branch; Elder Emeka Opara, Managing Director of Suitable Investment Nigeria Ltd; and especially the Chief of Jabu Community, Dikko Danjuma, for his unwavering support.

Corps members who had served with the organization were also recognized and prayed for, with wishes for success as they completed their primary assignments in Abuja.

In his welcome speech, the Chief of the Jabu Community thanked RHAGF for selecting Jabu for the training and prayed for long life and prosperity for Dr. Duru as she marked her milestone birthday.

Goodwill messages flowed in from family and friends celebrating her remarkable journey.

The Slum Coordinator of RHAGF, Mrs. Regina, along with her team of trainers, surprised Dr. Duru with a birthday present, while Mr. Henry Duru delivered the closing remarks at the event.

The event also featured an exhibition of the various skills acquired by the trainees during the two-week training.

Corps members who diligently served RHAGF were gifted as they were officially sent forth with appreciation.
