As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks his second year in office, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has praised the President’s “tremendous” and “unprecedented” performance, particularly in transforming Abuja’s infrastructure. During a routine inspection of ongoing projects, Wike highlighted the significant progress made under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a press statement from Rabi Musa Umar, the Assistant Director of Press, Office of the Minister on Thursday, Wike attributed the dramatic improvements in Abuja to Tinubu’s leadership style, saying, “All of us were critics that Abuja has not been working, and now Abuja is working. Who has made it to work? It’s Mr. President.” The Minister urged Nigerians to acknowledge Tinubu’s tangible successes, regardless of political affiliation.
Wike provided updates on key projects set for inauguration, including the 15-kilometer OSEX II to Wasa road and the Arterial Road N20 interchange. He assured that streetlights would be installed on the OSEX II road, despite not being part of the initial project.
During the project inspection, FCT residents greeted Wike with enthusiastic “four plus four” chants, which the Minister interpreted as a clear mandate for Tinubu to serve another term. “What they are saying is that Mr. President has done four years, and we should give him another four years,” he noted.
Wike expressed concern over the protracted strike by primary school teachers in the FCT over non-payment of the new minimum wage. He assured the public that the issues would soon be resolved, saying, “Everything is being done to see that the teachers go back to school.” The Minister also urged the National Assembly Committees on FCT Area Councils to focus on their primary responsibilities to help resolve the strike.
