The need for permanent employment for causal staff members serving in media organizations to encourage reward for handiwork and dedication to duty has been advocated by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu.
Comrade Abu Nmodu stated this during a courtesy visit to the new General Manager of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Hajiya Talatu Adamu Lawan, in Minna.
He expressed concern that individuals other than the casual workers are being offered permanent and pensionable appointments, stressing the need to, as a matter of priority, consider the casual staff members who have been serving for over a decade and with requisite qualifications.
While assuring the General Manager of the Union’s unflinching support to succeed, Comrade Abu Nmodu appealed to the GM to consider making a case for the employment of journalists working in a casual capacity at the NTA Minna.
In her remarks, the new General Manager of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Minna, Hajiya Talatu Adamu Lawan underscored the importance of partnership among critical stakeholders to achieve desired results.
She disclosed that the Station was transitioning from the national grid to a renewable solar energy source, stressing that NTA, with the largest reach in Africa, was poised to deliver to her cherished viewers an amazing TV experience, especially in educating, informing, enlightening, and entertaining the general public.
According to her, NTA Minna has taken delivery of the Solar Panels preparatory to uninterrupted and clear transmission.
She added that, when the new facilities are installed, NTA Minna will be able to meet the expectations of its viewers wherever they are.
Hajiya Talatu Lawan, who appreciated the NUJ delegation for the visit, pointed out that ninety percent of the newly employed staff members were casual staff of the NTA, stressing that she would work assiduously towards securing Permanent appointments for casual staff members at the NTA Minna.
The new General Manager assumed duty on the 17th of March 2025, and the NUJ Niger State Council was the first organization to pay her a courtesy visit.
