NUC releases ABSU 2024 accreditation exercise result

National University Commission(NUC),has made public the results of the October -November 2024 accreditation exercise of Abia state University Uturu(ABSU).

The accreditation exercise results was made public, by Abia state commissioner for information Prince okey kanu, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s EXCO, chaired by Dr.Alex Otti on Tuesday at the Government House Umuahia.

Prince kanu, said that the state government is happy to announce that Abia state University Uturu,has received full accreditation for the following programs;
“Programs in law, Agriculture, Mass communication, Educational Management planning and this accreditation is valid for five years,” kanu said.

The commissioner said that from the outset of this administration,
“His Excellency declared a state of emergency in the field of education. And ever since, the state government has not looked back in that direction.

“So through the Ministry of Tertiary Education, quite a lot is happening in that space. In this connection, the National Universities Commission, NUC, has released results of the October-November 2024 accreditation exercise.

“Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), if you recall, when this government came in, there was a problem of accreditation with regards to ABSU, which was addressed promptly by this administration.

“So continuing along that line, there was a recent exercise by NUC, and we’re happy to announce that ABSU has received full accreditation for the following programs.

“Programs in law, Agriculture , Mass Communication, Educational management and planning. And this accreditation is valid for five years,”the commissioner stated.

The commissioner said that to add impetus to this worthy achievement by the university, the state Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has, in conjunction with Council, approved the recruitment of lecturers of different categories to fill up vacant academic positions in critical areas of study in the university.

“Council has also approved the procurement of engineering equipment valued at N800 million for the university.

“The approval has been conveyed to the governing council of the university for implementation,”Prince kanu added.

The commissioner also stated that the welfare of staff of Dr Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, have been taken care of by Abia state government, through the promotion of it’s staff with full financial benefits.

“Council has given approval in that regard. It is instructive to note that this is the first promotion exercise in the Dr Ogbonnaya Onu polytechnic since 2008, making it a major morale booster for the personnel.

“Also, the payments of arrears of salaries of sacked and resigned staff of the institution have commenced, as approved by the State Executive Council.

“Dr Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba is actually living up to its beliefs as a foremost polytechnic with its technological feats, as reflected in the introduction of an online clearance platform for students of the school to ease the stress of students in clearance processes. What this means is that you do not need to come physically to the school to get a clearance from the school.

“Also, the school is undergoing comprehensive curriculum review with the introduction of emerging courses including Artificial Intelligence,”the commissioner for information concludes.
