It was a moment of mentorship, inspiration, and shared commitment to nation-building as the winners and finalists of the just-concluded โ€œOne-Day Vice Chancellorโ€ contest at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Bureau of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho.

Led by the FUOYE Director of the Directorate of Career Services and Coordinator of the competition, Prof. Adebola Aderibigbe, the visit was aimed at exposing the young leaders, three of whom are female, to the realities of public service and governance, and the demands of occupying leadership spaces with accountability, emotional intelligence, and a sense of purpose.

The DG, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho, warmly welcomed the team, praising the initiative as timely and transformational. She shared her own journey into leadership, how community responsibility found her at a young age, how she evolved from solving community-based and grassroots problems to leading community-centred structures and building networks through seminars, social media, and active engagement.

She emphasized that education remains the strongest exposure any child can receive, irrespective of background, and encouraged the students to take bold steps early, take initiative, and show up with purpose and competence wherever they find themselves. According to her, โ€œIf you want to lead, you must be willing to solve problems even above your age.โ€

The visit also served as an avenue to explore possible collaboration between the Bureau and the university, especially on creating a technical support team of trained students to work on community development projects, an idea the DG expressed interest in, describing it as an opportunity to mainstream young minds into governance workspaces.

Miss Oluwaseun Success (Winner), Miss Ojomo Jesubanke, Miss Adebimpe Hamdala, and Mr. Adeyemo Ayomide (Runners-up) expressed appreciation for the warm reception and described the engagement as โ€œeye-opening and truly inspiring.โ€
