The Ogun State Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), widely known as Iwe Iroyin and located along Oke Ilewo Road in Abeokuta, has recorded its first-ever round-the-clock power supply, marking a historic milestone for the council.
This feat was made possible by the donation of a 12KW 48V/200A solar power system and streetlights by Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, who represents Ogun Central Senatorial District.
A successful 24-hour test run of the solar system was carried out from Wednesday through Thursday ahead of the official commissioning, which is scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2025.
Members of the council were visibly elated and praised Senator Salisu for his impactful gesture, describing it as a transformative development for the Secretariat.
Speaking at the conclusion of the power test, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Wale Olarenwaju, highlighted the significance of the project, noting it as a fulfillment of the senator’s campaign promises. He added that partnerships with progressive-minded individuals will continue to uplift the journalism profession and strengthen the union’s infrastructure.
The official commissioning ceremony will hold at the NUJ Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, Abeokuta, beginning at 11 a.m.
