Kano Assembly proposes State Electricity Bill 2025

In a significant move to address the electricity challenges in Kano State, the Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, has proposed a bill to establish an electricity agency.  

The proposed agency aims to provide a comprehensive legal framework for the establishment and operation of electricity markets in Kano State.  

According to a statement issued on Monday by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the spokesperson for the Rt. Hon. Speaker, the bill will adopt an integrated resource planning and policy approach.

This includes recognizing various sources for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, incorporating renewable energy, to attract investment.  

  The major objectives outlined in the proposed bill are as follows:   

To establish an ideal legal and institutional framework that builds on the modest gains of privatization.  

To introduce an electricity regulatory system to oversee electricity operations in Kano State.  

To create electricity markets for Kano State.    The electricity bill is currently receiving thorough attention from the Honourable members of the Kano State House of Assembly. It is expected to significantly enhance and expand access to energy, attract investments, and ensure affordable electricity for the residents of Kano State.
