Just In: Ex-Delta State Gov Okowa, leaves PDP, joins APC after high-level meeting

Former Delta State Governor and one-time Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state.

The development came to light on Wednesday following a strategic meeting held at the Delta State Government House in Asaba.

The gathering, attended by key stakeholders, concluded with Okowa’s formal declaration of allegiance to the APC.

In a brief speech delivered in his native dialect before the official announcement, Okowa hinted at the move by assuring his supporters that he was committed to making the right decision.

He emphasized that his choice was made in consideration of the state’s future and the well-being of its people.

“Rest assured, we’re choosing the right path, one that offers better prospects for our people,” he said, subtly signalling the shift before confirming it.

Okowa’s defection is expected to send ripples through the state’s political scene, especially as campaigns for the next election cycle begin to take shape.

His move also underscores a broader trend of high-profile defections ahead of 2027, with analysts anticipating more realignments in the months to come.
