Niger commences tractor hiring scheme to boost food security

Niger State Ministry of Agriculture has announced April 2025 for the launching and commencement of Tractor Hiring Scheme Operations in the State, in its bid to actualize it’s slogan” Niger can feed the Nation of the present administration.
The State Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture, Hon.Musa Salihu Bawa Bossomade thos known in a statement after signing an MOU with Niger Foods Security Systems and Logistics for the lease of 50 Tractors in Minna.
He further disclosed that fifty tractors will be deployed to Hiring Centres across the three geopolitical zones of the State where farmers will access them for Ploughing, Harrowing and Ridging.
While farmers in Zone A Niger South can access the Tractors at Bida NAMDA Office, Mokwa Local Government Secretariat, Mokwa; Lapai Local Government Area at Gulu, Agaie Local Government Secretariat, Agaie and Gbako Local Government Secretariat, Lemu.
The Commissioner further explained that in zone B Niger East, farmers from Chanchaga and Bosso Local Government Areas can access the tractors at Tunga Farm Centre, Minna; Shiroro at Shiroro Local Government Secretariat, Kuta; Rafi Local Government at Farm Institute, Tegina and Gurara Local Government Secretariat, Gawu Babangida respectively.
In Zone C Niger North, farmers will access the Tractors at Kontagora NAMDA Office and Borgu Local Government at Agric Area Office New Bussa respectively.
Bawa Bosso, pointed out that the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with Ministry of Communication Technology and Digital Economy as well as Niger Foods Logistic Company Limited is currently working on developing a mobile App to accommodate online and offline bookings with a view to achieving a seamless and convenient process.
He emphasized that the Tractor Hiring Scheme would not give room for cash payment hence the need for farmers to be wary of fraudsters.
