Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa are through to the NWFL Super Six Tournament after recording their ninth win of the regular season with a routine win over basement girls from Makurdi.
Coach Whyte Ogbonda made some changes from the side that defeated Naija Ratels at the President Federation Cup in Benin City by giving Harmony John a Prosperity Cup Teenage sensation, signed from Golden Sun Sports Club here in Yenagoa her first start and appearance for Bayelsa Queens.
She wasted no time in giving the Prosperity Girls the lead as she scored through a goal mouth scramble on the 10th minutes of play.
That goal was the only goal in the first half as Coach Ogbonda made triple changes after resumption from the break, bringing in Vera Samuel, Dooshima Tarnum and Precious Oscar who brought in more fire power in the attack.
And their continuous pressure paid off when Olabiyi Alaba headed in from a Dooshima Tarnum rebound shot off the crossbar to extend Bayelsa Queens lead to two.
The visitors goalkeeper made some incredible saves to keep the scoreline as low as possible but the Prosperity Girls will turn their attention towards their trip to Adamawa where they wiil face Adamawa Queens in matchday 12 of the league.
Technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens, Whyte Ogbonda, after the match said the result has given them full assurance of playing in the Super Six.
“We played and people were expecting us to score more goals, but the way it is we’re not looking for the more goals, what we’re after is just the 3 points at stake and we’ve gotten it”, Whyte Ogbonda added.
