Debate on retirement age bill for Academic staff in Niger commences

Legislators of the Niger State House of Assembly have commenced debate on a bill to establish a law providing for the retirement age of academic staff in tertiary institutions.

This bill was Sponsored by Mohammed Sani Idris, representing Tafa Constituency, which aims to address concerns related to the retirement age of academic staff.

At the plenary session, many members contributed to the discussion, after which the bill was referred to the House Standing Committee on Education for further legislative action.

In addition to the retirement age bill, two other bills were presented on the floor of the House:

A Bill to Amend the Niger State Rural Access Roads Development Authority Law, 2023 (NISRADA): Presented by the Leader of the House, Hon. Idris Musa Vatsa (Lapai), for first reading.

A Bill to Amend the Law Establishing the Niger State Public Procurement Board Law, 2020: Presented by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Idris Musa Vatsa (Lapai).

The plenary session was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda.

The House has since gone on recess and will resume on April 15, 2025.
