In a significant move to enhance security operations in Ogun State, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has reinforced the Amotekun Corps with the donation of 13 new operational vehicles. The governor also cautioned the operatives against any form of abuse of power, urging them to remain professional, disciplined, and committed to their duties.
The presentation ceremony, held at the Amotekun Corps State Headquarters, was attended by top government officials, security personnel, and community leaders. Representing the governor at the event, the Chief of Staff, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all Ogun residents.
According to Abiodun, security remains the bedrock of meaningful development, and his government will continue to provide necessary support to strengthen law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that while the provision of operational tools is crucial, the effectiveness of the Amotekun Corps will ultimately depend on the professionalism, intelligence, and discipline of its operatives.
“These operational vehicles symbolize our dedication to a safer Ogun State,” he stated. “However, beyond the tools and equipment, the effectiveness of our security operatives lies in their discipline, professionalism, and intelligence. I, therefore, charge members of the Amotekun Corps to conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity, respect for human rights, and commitment to duty.”
The governor further highlighted the importance of synergy among security agencies in combating crime, particularly in intelligence gathering, community policing, and rapid response operations. He urged the Amotekun Corps to collaborate closely with other security outfits, community leaders, and residents to ensure a safer environment.
“Your uniform is a symbol of trust,” he continued. “Do not betray the confidence that the public has in you. Earn the people’s trust, and you will receive their support. The strength of Amotekun lies in gathering local intelligence, remaining vigilant, and promptly reporting suspicious activities. Security is not about oppression; it is not an opportunity to extort or harass the people. We have zero tolerance for abuse of power, and we expect every officer to uphold the highest ethical standards.”
Abiodun reassured Ogun residents that his administration would continue to prioritize peace and security, acknowledging that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of insecurity. He stated that the government would keep investing in security infrastructure to make the state a safe haven for residents and investors alike.
The event also featured commendations for the Amotekun Corps, with the governor recognizing their pivotal role in complementing other security agencies in crime prevention and law enforcement. He noted that Amotekun had been instrumental in addressing security challenges, particularly in intelligence gathering and community policing.
In his remarks, the Commandant of Amotekun, Brigadier General (rtd) Alade Adedigba, expressed gratitude to the governor for his continuous support. He applauded the donation of the new operational vehicles, describing it as a significant boost to the corps’ efficiency.
“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency for his unwavering commitment to security,” Adedigba said. “The provision of these vehicles will enhance our ability to respond swiftly to security threats and improve our operational capacity across the state.”
The commandant also commended the governor for approving the recruitment of 500 additional personnel into the Amotekun Corps, a move he described as timely and essential in tackling emerging security challenges.
In recognition of dedication and excellent service, 18 Amotekun operatives were presented with certificates of excellence at the event. This gesture, according to the governor, was aimed at encouraging professionalism and boosting the morale of officers in the line of duty.
With this latest intervention, Governor Abiodun has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Ogun State remains secure, peaceful, and conducive for economic growth and development. The newly donated vehicles are expected to enhance mobility, patrol efficiency, and response time in crime-fighting operations, further strengthening the security network in the state.
