The Northern Youths Coalition (NYC) has called on the Northern state’s governors to promote agriculture for the economic growth of the region and establishment of an avenue that would reduce unemployment among the youths.

The Secretary-general of the group, Malam Mustapha Bello, in an interview with a New Nigerian in Kano, added that Northern Nigeria is a very fertile area that can produce all types of crops that can boost the region’s economy and provide more employment opportunities.

Mustapha Bello added that rural-urban migration is becoming a threat to peaceful coexistence, especially when the lack of employment remains the cause of insecurity in the Northern region, which must be taken into serious consideration.

He stated that “we have many earth dams across the northern states, and if such dams were repaired and expanded to suit all agricultural projects because irrigation is one of the best options for food production and providing employment to quite several people, mostly youths.”

In conclusion, Malam Mustapha Bello announced that his group would continue to give more memos to the governments to ensure that Nigeria remained more progressive.
