Guardiola Dismisses Liverpool’s Chances of Breaking Man City’s Premier League Points Record

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that Liverpool, despite leading the Premier League with 57 points from 24 games, will not surpass City’s historic points record.
Guardiola’s side currently trails Liverpool by 16 points, with the Reds holding a seven-point lead over Arsenal in the title race. However, the Spaniard remains proud of his team’s past achievements and insists that the 100-point milestone City set in the 2017-18 season remains a formidable benchmark in English football.
“We’ve set the standard in England,” Guardiola remarked. “Reaching 100 points is an enormous challenge in today’s game, especially with the level of competition from teams like Bournemouth, Fulham, and Wolves.”
City’s recent struggles, including a 3-2 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League play-off round, have raised questions about their current form. Guardiola admitted that his squad has not reached their usual high standards this season due to injuries and fatigue.
“The league has changed significantly. Teams are better prepared, and this season has taught us important lessons about resilience and consistency,” he said.
While City has traditionally dominated possession under Guardiola, he acknowledged that they have struggled to convert their control of the game into results this season.
“I accept that we sometimes suffer when we don’t have the ball, but now we are also finding it difficult when we do. It’s a challenge we are working to overcome,” he added.
Despite these difficulties, Guardiola stressed the importance of adapting and pushing forward, noting that City’s past successes were exceptional and not the norm.
