FCTA moves to address influx of almajiri, others into Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has raised concerns over the increasing influx of almajiri and other individuals with security concerns into the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). To address this issue, the FCT Security Committee, chaired by Minister Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike held an expanded security meeting recently, according to a press statement from Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press, Office of the Minister, FCTA.

Following the meeting, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, announced that the FCT Minister has directed the formation of a committee to address the influx of Aamajiri and other persons considered security threats into the FCT. The committee comprises members from the FCT security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Army, the DSS, and the NSCDC.

The committee’s key responsibilities include Identifying almajiri schools and teachers, Working with area council chairmen to identify schools where almajiri children are being taught, and Profiling organizers of almajiri schools, including their pictures and phone numbers.

Determining Training Content Determining the content of the training provided to students in Almajiri schools.
-Collaboration: Exploring areas of collaboration with Area Council Chairmen to address the influx of almajiri and other security concerns.

The committee has two weeks to submit its report to the FCT Minister. In the meantime, the FCT Commissioner of Police has urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the authorities.
