The Kebbi State Government has shifted the 61st Arugungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival to next year, 2026.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday, the Deputy Governor, who also serves as the Chairman of the main committee, Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida Arugungu, said that the shifting of the festival was based on consultation with Argungu Emirate Council.

“After consultation, the emirate decided to reschedule the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, which was earlier planned for February 2025.

“Because of this, the festival will now be held in the year 2026.

“The decision to reschedule the festival was necessitated by the need to carry out befitting, standard, and permanent repairs of the structure at the festival’s venues.

“Additionally, the ongoing road dualisation and other development projects in Argungu Township, as well as other peculiar reasons have forced the shifting of the festival to 2026,” he said.

The dep. Governor, however, said that the Kebbi State Government was firmly committed to organizing the best fishing and cultural festival, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Kebbi people in 2026.

“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the public, stakeholders, and participants in this regard.

“Let us continue to work together towards a brighter future for Kebbi State,” he added.
