The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has apprehended a 54-year-old man, Adelani Oriyomi, for allegedly attempting to exhume a human skull from a tomb in Kere, Obada-Oko, Abeokuta.
In a statement issued by the Commander of So-Safe Corps, Commander (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, the suspect was caught during a routine patrol at 2:35 a.m. (midnight) on January 21, 2025.
Oriyomi, the resident of Kere Obada Oko in Ewekoro LGA, confessed to the crime, revealing that he had previously exhumed a skull on January 18, 2025, and was attempting to retrieve another for a money ritual preparation known as Osole.
He also admitted to being a seasoned offender, having sold nearly ten skulls in the past, and had been previously arrested and imprisoned for similar offenses in Ado-Odo which led to 6years and 9month punishment.
The suspect and the recovered exhibit have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Obada Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
However, commander Ganzallo emphasized the importance of community leaders thoroughly screening tenants and visitors to prevent harboring undesirable individuals, which could ensure 70% of home security and 30% of alertness to external threats.
This incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the community to prevent such heinous crimes.
