NiMet set to unveil 2025 Climate Forecast: Shaping Nigeria’s Weather-Ready Future

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is preparing to unveil its 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) on February 4, 2025, continuing its tradition of providing crucial climate insights for the nation.
This year’s theme, “The Role of Early Warnings towards a Climate Resilient Aviation Industry for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development,” underscores the significance of accurate climate information in driving critical decisions across sectors.
According to the Director General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, the SCP serves as a vital resource for socio-economic planning in agriculture, aviation, disaster risk management, health, and water resources management.
Key highlights of the 2025 SCP include:
– Rainy season onset and cessation dates.
– Length of the cropping season.
– Rainfall distribution across Nigeria’s 774 LGAs.
– Temperature outlook (January-May).
– Health-focused forecasts on malaria and meningitis.
The publication, set to be officially presented by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, will also include a summary for policymakers, translations into three major Nigerian languages, and a comprehensive State of the Climate in Nigeria report.
The event will attract a wide array of stakeholders, including representatives from public and private sectors, development partners, and non-governmental organizations, showcasing NiMet’s commitment to providing actionable climate intelligence to foster resilience and sustainable growth across Nigeria.
