Makinde confirms Prince Owoade as new Alaafin of Oyo

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has officially approved Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the historic kingdom.

The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade. According to Oyelade, the Oyomesi, after extensive consultations and traditional divinations, recommended Prince Owoade and the governor subsequently approved the choice.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo, also confirmed the development. He noted that the decision resolves the socio-political and legal disputes that arose following the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.

Hon. Ojo called on all citizens of Oyo State to celebrate this significant occasion and rally behind the new Alaafin to ensure a peaceful and prosperous reign.

The state government expressed optimism that Prince Owoade’s leadership would bring unity, progress, and stability to the Oyo Kingdom.
