Minna Old Tamers defeat Lapai Old Tamers in a thrilling Gov’s Cup Novelty Match

A captivating novelty match unfolded between Lapai Old Tamers and Minna Old Tamers as the curtain raiser to the eagerly awaiting governor’s cup final.
The match featured an impressive lineup of football enthusiasts and notable dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Hamidu Muazu Jantabo; the of Justice, Barrister Muazu Muhammed; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government, Miller; and legendary players such as Likita, Maradona, and Chebolu.
The game was officiated by Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, the Chairman of the Niger State Football Association, Chairman of Chairmen, and Leader of Congress at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), famously known as the Sardauna Kollon Kafan Minna.
The match showcased exceptional talent and camaraderie, ending goalless in regulation time. Minna Old Tamers emerged victorious in the penalty shootout with a 5-3 scoreline.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Local Government, was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance on the pitch, earning widespread admiration for his skill and leadership.
Speaking after the match, Hon. Hamidu Muazu Jantabo and Barrister Muazu Muhammed lauded the organizers of the Governor’s Cup for their efforts in promoting sports at the grassroots level.
They extended their gratitude to Governor Umar Muhammad Bago for his steadfast support and commitment to sports development across Niger State.

He further urged match officials overseeing the third-place match between Suleja Local Government and Kontagora Local Government, as well as the grand finale, to remain impartial and uphold the principles of fairness.
Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, who officiated the novelty match, praised the event’s role in fostering unity and providing an avenue for youth engagement.
“Football is more than just entertainment; it is a platform for unity, discipline, and professional growth for our youth,” he remarked.
He pledged to identify and promote exceptional players nationally and internationally, urging all participants to remain disciplined, focused, and respectful of the rules governing football.

All eyes are now on the Governor’s Cup final, slated for December 19, 2024, at 3:00 PM. The much-anticipated match will be held at the Lapai Football Academy Field, Kobo Secondary School, Lapai.
