Engr. Olufunsho Olusesan Adebiyi officially assumed office as the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, succeeding Yakubu Adams Kofarmata, Ph.D.

While addressing the management and staff of the ministry, the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kofarmata, expressed gratitude for the harmonious working relationship he enjoyed during his tenure. He urged the staff to extend the same level of cooperation to his successor, Engr. Adebiyi, to enable him to succeed in his new role.

He appealed, “I beg of you, extend the same hands of cooperation, support, and comradeship to him, and I am sure you will never regret it.”

In his acceptance speech, Engr. Adebiyi commended Dr. Kofarmata for his excellent track record while in office, noting that many staff members had learned a lot from his leadership.

He said, “Dr. Kofarmata has always been there for the staff of the ministry, day in and day out, ensuring that the proper things were done.”

Engr. Adebiyi solicited the continued dedication and cooperation of the ministry’s staff, emphasizing that the challenges facing the ministry and the country as a whole are enormous. He stressed that these challenges can only be tackled through collective effort.

“I want to assure you that I will do my best by the grace of God,” he stated. “The challenges before us are enormous, but I am confident that together, we will overcome them.”

He highlighted one of the pressing challenges facing the ministry: allegations of lopsidedness in the geopolitical distribution of projects. Engr. Adebiyi noted that various regions often accuse the ministry of prioritizing some areas over others, creating tension and dissatisfaction.

However, he assured that such issues would be resolved amicably. He urged everyone to work toward delivering on President Tinubu’s mandate of providing critical road infrastructure, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I want to appeal to all of us to strive toward achieving the president’s mandate. Let us focus on delivering the critical infrastructure needed for national development,” he said.

Engr. Adebiyi comes to the Federal Ministry of Works from the State House, while Dr. Kofarmata has been redeployed to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) for further posting.

As he assumed his new role, Engr. Adebiyi pledged to uphold the values of excellence and dedication in service, promising to address the concerns of all stakeholders equitably.

The transition marks a new chapter for the ministry, with staff expressing optimism about continuing progress under the leadership of Engr. Adebiyi.
