Clergyman killed by suspected herders

A clergy man and founder of a church Pastor John Chukwu was said to have been recently killed by suspected armed herders at Apomu, Osun State.

Pastor Chuks as he was fondly called was said to have been the target of the suspected Fulani herders for his long standing campaign against open grazing and for rallying support for victims of the brutal attack of the herders.

The man of God was said to have been attacked at his cassava farm plantation by these herders who accused him of taking sides with the farmers after which he was mercilessly macheted and left in the pool of his blood thinking that he had died.

The workers helping the man of God to manage his expanse farms who ran for their dear lives during the attack however came back and rushed the Pastor to the hospital where he was pronounced dead

Past Chuks was said to have relocated from Abuja to Apomu community about two years ago due to the daily threat he received from these herders for championing the course of justice for some farmers who these herders had killed whenever they bring their cows to graze their crops.

A source who pleaded anonymity because he does not want to be attacked by the herders said “Past Chuks came to our community about a year ago, though, he is someone that I have known for some years

“He is known to be a vocal voice against the criminal acts of these ruthless herders. In fact, he provides assistance for the people who were either displaced by these herders clash or had their farm destroyed.

“He assists victims of these herders malevolence too in their education. One of them is my friend, Ajala Philip who is now schooling in Ukraine. These same herders were the ones that killed Philip’s grandfather after which the Pastor started taking care of him (Philip)

“It was because of the threat of these ruthless herders that made Philip too to leave the country and they are still threatening to kill him and many others who had fled the country.

“We hope that the security agencies will step up their games and go after these criminals and make them account for their misdeeds and horrendous acts”.
