The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ebonyi State chapter, has alleged that the All Progressive Congress (APC) plans to cause mayhem and disrupt the governorship and State Assembly elections have been uncovered.
PDP disclosed this in a statement signed by it’s campaign council Director on Media and Publicity Chief Abia Onyike on Wednesday.
Onyike, further alleged that the leaders of APC has instructed their thugs to attack anyone not voting for their party urged the ruling party in the State to allow the citizens exercise their freedom to elect leaders of their choice.
According to him, “That is the essence of a democratic election”. He said
Onyike however call on the security agents in the state to forestall the breakdown of law and order .
“The APC is not prepared for a democratic competition. Their leaders and Chieftains have boasted that any body who comes out on Saturday and refuses to vote for their party will be killed. This is a terrible and strange development in the history of elections in Nigeria.
“We seize this opportunity to alert the security agencies in the state to forestall the breakdown of law and order because of the excesses of these political gangsters.
“Meanwhile, we have it on good authority that they have imported thugs known as the “Warriors” from Kogi State. They are planning to replicate what happened in Ezza North in Izzi Land. This time, they want to rope in the Governorship Candidate of PDP.” He added
The former Information Commissioner in the state also condemn the killing of innocent citizens and Traditional Rulers in the state, all in the name of the quest for power.
“Ebonyi State requires peace and tranquility. Let the citizens be allowed the freedom to elect leaders of their choice. That is the essence of a democratic election.
“Those who kill or mobilise thugs and arm them to kill our people are worse than evil desperados. They are the purveyors of falsehood and corruption.
“They had all the opportunities to offer good governance, but instead they preferred their private pockets. Now that the day of reckoning has come, and realizing that they have lost legitimacy and electoral value, they are running from pillar to post to terrorize the citizenry in order to steal their electoral mandate by force. This is the most shameful act ever committed against a free people.
“EBONYIANS have resolved to come out enmasse and vote for candidates of their choice. Gov Umahi and his foot soldiers cannot stop the popular will of the people. Victory is ours”.
Recall that Governor David Umahi had earlier urged the security agencies to ensure that there is peaceful atmosphere for all parties during the electioneering period. Ends
