Osun: APC charges Police to sit up, maintain neutrality
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has charged the state police command under the leadership of Mr Patrick Kehinde Longe, the state commissioner of police, to be more proactive in the discharge of its statutory duties of securing lives and property of the inhabitants of the state.
According to the Acting Chairman of the APC in the state, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo today, the reported arrest of one Fatai Abass, a notorious cultist who has been on the watchlist of the state police command for over one year, is commendable but it should not be the utmost mission and target in ridding the state of the hardened political hoodlums who have been willing tools in the hands of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in the state.
It would be recalled that the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), MrsYemisi Opalola, confirmed the arrest of Abass, 23, popularly known as ‘Gbefawo’ by the operatives of the Anti-cultism Squad at Oke-Baale area of Osogbo few days ago.
Lawal disclosed that Abass whose arrest was given a media hype by the police was insignificant based on his junior and inferior status among the copious numbers of the notorious political thugs who have been perpetrating monumental violent attacks on the innocent inhabitants of the state.
The Acting State APC Chairman observed that it appears that some of the hardened political hoodlums in the state are being shielded by both executive and police authorities as they are usually sighted enjoying statutory security protection in the public.
Lawal tasked the state commissioner of police, Longe, that before the discerning members of the public could have a sustainable confidence in the police command under his leadership, all the known political hoodlums who are being shielded by the politicians should be instantly arrested and prosecuted for their past crimes.
He stated that the celebrated arrest of Abassby the state police command appears a public relations job skillfully designed in order to show to the Inspector-General of Police and members of the public that the Osun State Police Command is working.
In Lawal’s words: “It is never too late for the Osun State Police Command to be alive to its constitutional responsibility of ensuring security of lives and property.
“It is wicked and criminal for the police to be selective in the performance of their statutory duties for what-ever reason.
“It is strange and funny that some of the hoodlums on the wanted list of the police are also enjoying police security whenever they are sighted in the public.
“The Osun State Commissioner of Police should tell the public the efforts that his command has been making to arrest and prosecute the following daredevil and notorious political thugs who have been wining and dining with the sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke:
“Olalekan Ajagungbade a.k.a. ‘Emir’ who hails from Osogbo; Sikiru Oyeniyi a.k.a. ‘Ado Igbona’ who hails from Olorunda; Solomon Adefioye Adedimeji a.k.a. ‘Solo Iwara’ who hails from Atakumosa; WakeelNurudeen a.k.a. ‘Alowonle’ who hails from Osogbo and Bode Olakayode a.k.a. ‘Bode Itaapa’ who hails from Atakumosa.
The other deadly thugs who have been attacking, maiming and killing the members and supporters of the opposition are: Ibrahim Gbadamosi a.k.a. ‘Gbedu’ who hails from Boripe; Wakeel Dokky who hails from Ede; Yemi Aleba who hails from Ede; Kareem Oladeji Aflao who hails from Ede; Taye Trouble who hails from Ede; Baba Ibeji Thunder who hails from Ede; SekereOlota who hails from Ede and Oriade OPC who also hails from Ede.
