SONIDEK conducts second convocation ceremony
The School of Nursing, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido- Ekitiheld its 2nd Convocation & Award Ceremony of Sets 2013 to 2019 on Wednesday, 14th December, 2022 at the School premises.
The School Principal, Mrs. Olubunmi Adeniji in her welcome address, congratulated the graduands and their parents/guardians. She expressed her appreciation to the Board and Management of the hospital and extended same to the parents and other stakeholders for their support and urged the graduands to be good Ambassadors of the institution.
She highlighted the laudable accomplishments of the school which include the introduction of Computer Based Testing System (CBT) in 2020 and assimilation of the school into Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) among numerous others.
The Class Coordinator, Mrs. Ogbonna Chinyere presented the graduands to the Principal who conferred on them, the title Registered Nurse.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Adekunle Ajayi, welcomed the Board Chairman of the hospital, Hon (Alhaji) Mohammed Sukababa, other Top Management Committee and all dignitaries in attendance and congratulated the graduands for their excellent performance. He apologized for the delay in organizing the Convocation over the years.
He informed the gathering that the School has stopped admitting students for Registered Nurse programme owing to directive from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria; that henceforth, students will be admitted for Bachelor of Nursing programme as a result of a collaborative arrangement with FUOYE’s Nursing Department.
He stated that the clarification becomes necessary in curtailing the rumours in town that the School is folding up, adding that the upgrade will be in the best interest of the institution and Ido-Ekiti community.
The CMD admonished the graduands to be patriotic and make up their minds to repay the Nigerian Government who had heavily subsidized the cost of their education by staying in the Country to save the lives of its people.
High Chief Fasuyi Oluwole Johnson who represented the Royal Father of the day, HRM Oba (Capt.) Ayorinde Ilori FaboroAjiboye III, the Olojudo of Ido-Ekiti, urged the graduands to be good Representatives of the School outside and not “beautiful flowers in the bush”. He charged them to stay relevant in their field via further extensive reading, learning and training.
The Director of Nursing Services, Ekiti State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Yewande Akute in her message, felicitated with the parents and guardians for supporting their children’s noble career. She stated that everybody including Nurses can be a patient therefore, the graduands should always give to their patients the kind of care they would love to receive someday.
The convocation lecture was delivered by the former Principal of the School, Rev Sister Ogunkorode Agatha, PhD, titled “Patient Safety and Provision of Quality Care”; after which presentation of Academic and Character Awards were given to selected graduands by a Board Member, Prof. Mrs. Elizabeth Olufunmilayo Ojo.
Cutting of the convocation cake and chorography by Students of the School were followed by a prayer session led by Ven. Arch Deacon Olubunmi Ajiboye.
The Vice Principal of the School, Mrs O.A. Akinola thanked everyone present for their contributions to the success of the programme and wished them a safe trip back to their destinations.
Also in attendance was the Head of Nursing Department, FUOYE, Prof. Tijani and Prof. Mrs. Funmi Ojo, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences, ABUAD. In the CMD’s entourage were the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. OlagokeErinomo, Director of Administration, Chief B.O Ogunrinde, Head of Finance and Accounts, Mrs Yemi Olayisade, Deputy Director of Admin (GA), Mr Abayomi Adeakin, Head of Nursing Services, Mrs. Grace Olajide, Head of Information & Corporate Affairs, Mr. Bank-Akinnuoye and Head of Internal Audit, Mrs Yinka Adewara, among prominent others.
