The Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers Ekiti State Wing Comrade Oke Emmanuel has advocated for a teacher friendly governor who will make the welfare of teachers a priority in the state for uplift of the education sector.
Comrade Emmanuel who stated this in an interview with journalists in ado Ekiti said the union’s desire is to have a governor who is ready to restore the dignity of teachers and stop the intimidation and molestation of teachers in any form in the state.
He emphasized on the need to pray for a governor who will make regular payment of salary and outstanding arrears a priority when he gets to office for the better welfare of teachers.
In his words “statistical data in our schools shows shortage of teachers and there is need to employ more hands into the classrooms for the benefit of our children.
On promotion of teachers, the NUT boss said financial benefit of promotions should be first and well considered before pronouncement.This will always motivate teachers to be more committed.
He noted that many of the candidates from various political parties have been visiting the secretariat of the union soliciting for votes but teachers in Ekiti will only vote for the best among the candidates.
He however commended the present leadership in Ekiti State under Dr John kayode Fayemi for improving on facilities in schools in Ekiti State, noting that teachers are fully prepared for the forthcoming election and ready to vote enmase in block form for a governor who has the love of teachers at heart.
