AfDB Secures $15.6bn Investment for Lagos-Abidjan Highway
The African Development Bank (AfDB) on Friday, disclosed that it has secured a $15.6 billion investment for the construction of the Lagos-Abidjan highway. Specifically, the bank’s president, Akinwumi Adesina, disclosed the development in a tweet on his official Twitter handle @akin_adesina.
According to Adesina, the investment would grow trade in the West African region by linking the hinterlands of different Participating Member Countries (PMCs) and provide seaport access to landlocked countries and some transition states in the region.
Adesina tweeted, “Speaking to the Press at the Presidential Villa, together with H.E. President @AOuattara_PRCI of Cote d’Ivoire. He was delighted to hear the African Investment Forum has secured $15.6 billion of investment interests for the construction of the Lagos-Abidjan highway corridor.
Meanwhile, the Lagos-Abidjan highway interconnects the capital cities of Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, and Benin, covering approximately 1,028 km and eight border crossings. The Abidjan-Lagos Corridor is a flagship project of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) and forms part of the wider Dakar-Lagos Corridor and a major part of the Trans African Highway Network within the ECOWAS region.
