No fewer than 15 persons have been killed following the cult war between members of Eiye and Aiye Confraternities in Ogun State.
The cult war, which started in Oluwo area of Abeokuta, the state capital, with the death of one Tommy, who was murdered in cold blood, resulted to the death of seven persons.
But, the battle took another turn when eight persons were reportedly killed in Sagamu area on the state on Monday as the rival cult group continued the war for supremacy.
Some residents in Abeokuta have been living in fear of possible attacks following the death of Tommy, who was macheted in Panseke area of Abeokuta.
The residents, who resides in Panseke, Oluwo, Onikolobo, Adigbe had fled their homes as at Sundays as gun shot rent the air of the areas
Although, the police said 18 persons were arrested in connection with the clash, but tension rises again as cult members took their battle to Sagamu, Remo axis of state, leading to the demise of another eight persons.
Sources on Sunday, told Standard Times that some young men stormed the town, killing their targets.
Immediately police took into action and started picking up some victims while other were said to have been taken away by their parents
A source told our correspondent that one Akeem, an electrician was killed at the Ajegunle area of Sagamu around 7am.
“Akeem did not die immediately, but when they were rushing him to the hospital, another bike hit them and he fell from the bike. That was how he died eventually. His intestines were coming out because he was shot in the stomach,” the source said.
Some of the victims, it was learnt, were murdered in places including Soyindo, Ijagba, Ajegunle and Sabo; all in Sagamu.
“There’s this pain of praying for the same thing for years and not getting a response because we’re channelling our energy in the wrong direction. We want peace in the State, to bring an end to these lingering cult clashes, it affects everybody. Every street in Sagamu is literally empty,” Awoyemi Michael said
The residents of Sagamu, however, called on the police to put the situation under control.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, promised to revert with more details on the killings.
