Delta govt takes 177 persons off streets

Gov Ifeanyi Okowa is ready to change the face of Delta for the better; he is intent upon creating a brighter future for young persons , both man and woman as well as the girl – child in the state; he does these by the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme ( STEP ) and the Youths Agricultural Entrepreneurship Programme (YAGEP) schemes to enhance a friendly business environment for young persons and create business opportunities for the girl – child .
The Secretary to the State Government ( SSG ) , Mr Patrick Ukak , stated these on Tuesday in Asaba , the state capital at a one – day award ceremony for the beneficiaries of the STEP and YAGEP schemes of the Okowa-led administration.
The Chief Job Creation Officer , Mr Eric Eboh , told STANDARD TIMES that over 177 persons had already scaled through the programme and properly being trained in various skills.
According to him , beneficiaries acquired skills in fashion design , shoemaking , trading , piggery and poultry farming.
The professor said about 75 beneficiaries had already received financial assistance of #500, 000 each; 40 successful participants in the YAGEP scheme were assisted with #75m while 62 beneficiaries of the STEP scheme got #10m to kick – start their businesses.
The SSG urged the successful young entrepreneurs to spend the money on the purpose for which it was released.
