Agriculture: Kebbi govt vows to encourage wet, dry season cultivation
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state says his administration will sustain support and encouragement to farmers for wet and dry season cultivation.
He affirmed this while interacting with dry season farmers from Bakoshi at Shema, Suru Local Government during a visit to the area this Saturday.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu listened to complaints by the farmers, through their leader Hakimi Sani Bakoshi Nassarawa about the high cost of fertilizer and petrol for water pumping machines.
The governor who is the Vice Chairman, National Food Security Council and Chairman of Presidential Task-Force on Rice and Wheat Production in Nigeria pledge that, necessary measures would be taken towards ameliorating the problem.
He informed them that President Muhammadu Buhari has over the years provided various intervention schemes, through the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN to provide farmers with loan and other agricultural facilities.
The leader of the farmers, Mallam Sani Bakoshi Nassarawa appealed to Governments at all levels to assist farmers to solve the problem of non-availability of fertilizer and high cost of fuel for water pumping machines which have impeded dry season farming.
The Governor later made a step-over at a Fulani settlement at Banbala, Suru Local Government to inspect Nomadic school and water supply as well as ascertain security situation in the area, calling on parents to enroll their children into school to acquire Islamic and western education.
He directed the relevant authorities to provide good drinking water to the settlement and maintain security surveillance around the area to enable them cater for their animals in peace and tranquility.
