Pregnant woman, 8 others burnt to death in Kwara autocrash

Nine persons, including a pregnant woman, on Sunday were burnt to death in a multiple autocrash in Ilorin, capital of Kwara State.

According to reports, eight men suffered various degrees of burn injuries as a result of the incident. According to eyewitness, the accident occurred around 8 a.m on the Ilorin-Ogbomosho highway, near the Ilorin International Airport.

Before the accident, twenty people were said to be on board the ill-fated Toyota Corolla carwith registration number LRN787FE and Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number AFN06YL.

 According to reports, one of the vehicles involved in the accident was transporting petrol-filled kegs. Jonathan Owoade, the Kwara state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), confirmed the incident, blaming it on overspeeding.

“A car coming out of the airport ran across the road, thinking it could have crossed before the bus got there,” he explained. It was also reported that it was transporting fuel.”

“Passers-by also assisted in transporting the injured to the state General Hospital in Ilorin, he said.
