Pastor arrested for conniving with wife to rape 16-year-old choir member

Police in Ogun State have arrested one Pastor Peter Taiwo of the Christ Apostolic Bible church, Alaja Oke-Saje, for allegedly conniving with his wife Elizabeth Taiwo to defile a 16-year-old choir member of his church (name withheld)

The suspect and his wife were arrested on December 10, 2021.

They were arrested following a complaint lodged at Adatan divisional headquarters by the victim.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed this to newsmen in Abeokuta on Sunday

Oyeyemi said the victim went to the church for choir practice, when the pastor’s wife called her and told her to go and meet the pastor in their room because the pastor wanted to send her on an errand.

He said as soon as she got into the room, the pastor’s wife locked the door from outside and thee pastor quickly overpowered her, and forcefully had sex with her.

The Police PRO explained further that the pastor’s wife later came in, and met the victim crying after her husband had satisfied himself and told her to stop crying as she is now a woman, she then warned her never to tell anybody or else she will die.

Upon the report, the Dpo Adatan division, SP Salaudeen Abiodun, quickly detailed his detectives to the scene, where the randy pastor and his wife were promptly apprehended.

The couple, on interrogation, confessed to the crime but blamed the devil for it. They also pleaded for forgiveness from the victim.

The victim had been taken to the hospital by the police for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to anti human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation.

Abductors of the retired Permanent Secretary in Kwara State, Dr Zubair Oba Erubu, have reportedly reached out to his family, demanding N60million as ransom.

It was learnt yesterday evening that the men of the underworld did not give room for negotiation but insisted that the money be paid to secure his release from captivity.

A member of his family, who craved anonymity, told Our correspondent in confidence yesterday evening that the abductors contacted the family on Friday night, saying that the sad incident has caused a traumatic experience for them.

“The abductors had reached out to us on Friday night. They demanded a sum of N60million ransom before they can set Dr Erubu free. They did not even wait for negotiation before ending the phone call.

“This is a terrible moment for us and its traumatic. We just pray that they do not harm Doctor. We are trusting Almighty Allah that he would be released soon without any problem”, the source said.

Erubu, who is also the Magaji Erubu of Ilorin Emirate, is spending the fourth day in kidnappers’ den after his abduction at gunpoint last Thursday’s night.

He was said to be returning from Ilorin metropolis to retire at his Ago-Oja residence when the kidnappers struck and seized him.

Eburu was said to be in Ilorin earlier on the fateful day to attend to a patient, who was undergoing treatment in his private hospital located in Balogun Fulani Area of Ilorin.

The state police command could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report yesterday evening.

But the command had confirmed the abduction of the retired permanent secretary in a terse statement issued in Ilorin on Friday.

Spokesman of the command, Ajayi Okasanmi, a Superintendent of Police, said the Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, had directed a rescue operation to ensure timely release of the victim from the kidnappers’ den.

“The kidnap incident is confirmed. The commissioner of police, CP Tuesday Assayomo has ordered a discreet investigation, rescue and arrest of the kidnappers immediately he got the information”, Okasanmi said.

NDLEA arrests Ghanaian, 2 Nigerians with 9.9kg cocaine, Meth

NDLEA has arrested a Ghanaian and two Nigerians at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, (NAIA), Abuja, and at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, respectively for drug trafficking.

Its Director, Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi, stated on Sunday in Abuja that of 9.953kilograms of cocaine and Methamphetamine were intercepted from the suspects.

He stated that Uzoh Johnson was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at about 5.30 p.m. during an inward screening of Ethiopian Airlines passengers at the Arrival Hall of the Akanu Ibiam Airport.

According to him, Johnson who arrived from Brazil via Addis Ababa was arrested with clothes impregnated with cocaine, which has a gross weight of 6.7 kilograms.

“While being interviewed by narcotic officers, Uzoh said he was given the consignment by his enabler in Brazil for which he would be paid N3 million upon successful delivery to someone in Nigeria,’’ he said.

In the same vein, another trafficker, 53-year-old Udeh Charley was arrested at the Enugu airport for ingesting 72 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.253kilograms.

Babafemi said that he was arrested on Friday, Dec. 3 during outward screening of Ethiopian Airlines passengers going to Rome, via Addis Ababa.

“He claimed he would have been paid 4,000 Euros on successful delivery of the drugs in Italy where he has been living for more than 20 years.

“He attributed his decision to engage in the ignominious trade on downward turn of his business as a result of COVID-19 pandemic,’’ he said.

In a related development, another trafficker, 25-year-old John Kadja, whose father was from Kumasi, Ashanti region of Ghana and mother from Nsukka, Enugu State was arrested on Friday Dec. 3.

Babafemi stated that the suspect was arrested with two kilograms of Methamphetamine during an outward clearance of Qatar Airways from Abuja to Doha.

“A search of his bag showed that the drug was concealed in a false bottom of his checked in luggage. He said he was travelling to Doha to work as a labourer,’’ Babafemi added.

POS Operator, Onyeanu, Varsity Student jailed for identity theft, cyber fraud in Ilorin

Justice Mohammed Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin on Thursday, December 9, 2021 sentenced two suspected internet fraudsters found guilty of offences bordering on cyber fraud contrary to Section 22(2) (b) (Ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc.) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22(2) (b) (iv) of the same Act.

The two convicts: Onyeanu Chukwuemeka David and Anthony Anyadiora Obumneme were prosecuted on separate one count charge each by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The Ilorin-based Imo-born Onyeanu was a POS operator, who specialized in identity theft of unsuspecting victims to perpetrate fraud through the internet. In his case, Anthony was one of the 30 ‘Yahoo Boys’ arrested on September 19, 2021 by operatives of the EFCC during a sting operation on selected hostels at Kwara State University, KWASU, Malete.

Upon arraignment today, the two defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charge.

Following their guilty plea, Sesan Ola and Rashidat Alao, who prosecuted for the Commission against Onyeanu and Anthony drew the attention of the Court to the plea bargain agreement entered by the defendants with the Commission. They urged the Court to consider the extra-judicial statements of the defendants and exhibits tendered as well as the provisions of the law to convict the defendants.

Justice Sani in his judgment said the Court had carefully considered the plea of the defendants, their statements and plea bargain agreements. He held that the defendants were guilty of their respective charge.

The judge sentenced Anthony to one year imprisonment with N200, 000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) option of fine. The Court also ordered that the convict forfeit the sum of $150 (One Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars) and iPhone 11 to the Federal Government.

Similarly, Justice Sani sentenced Onyeanu to six months imprisonment with N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) option of fine. According to the judge, the convict would forfeit the sum of $300 (Three Hundred USD), which he benefited from the criminal activity and iPhone 12 Pro used to perpetrate the crime to the Federal Government.
