Make incentives available to real farmers, Stakeholders urge Minister

Stakeholders of the All farmers association of Nigerian, AFAN has urged Minister of agriculture and rural development, Dr Mohammed Abubakar to ensure that incentives meant for farming activities get to the real farmers to reduce hunger and ensure food security in the country.

Chairman, stakeholders of AFAN, Dr Tunde Arosanyin who made the call while addressing newsmen in Ilorin, said when incentives such as fertilizer and seeds get to the authentic farmers, it would boost food production in the country.

Dr Arosanyin advised Dr Mohammed Abubakar to emulate electronic wallet of the President, African Development Bank, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina when he was minister of agriculture, whose method ensured that subsidized fertilizer and seeds get to rural farmers as and when due.

The Chairman, stakeholders of AFAN commended the minister of agriculture for issuing policy statement on how bank of agriculture would get back on track as well as visiting agriculture research institute to feel their pulse.

On the crisis rocking AFAN, Dr Arosanyin emphasized that tenure of Archtect Kabir Ibrahim led executive expired in June 2019, while the circumstances that led to emergence of Mr Mudi Farouk led executive is not known to the constitution of the asssociation.

Dr Arosanyin stressed that arrangements are ongoing to elect new officers in-line with constitution of the association, which will be communicated to relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies very soon.
