Commodity associations in Ogun urged to improve their export operations through Nigeria Commodity Exchange
The Managing Director/CEO of Nigeria Commodity Exchange, NCX, Mrs.ZaheeeaBaba-Ari, has called on export commodity associations in Ogun state to take advantage of the Exchange to boost the export revenues of their members.
Mrs. Baba-Ari, who made the appeal recently while delivering the opening remarks in Abeokuta at a Capacity Building workshop on agro-commodity trading and warehouse management for farmers, agro-processors and other market actors domiciled in Ogun state and environs.
The Managing Director was represented at the occasion by the General Manager for Operations of the Exchange, Mr. BensonLawal.
She identified Sesame Seed Association Of Nigeria, Cashew Association Of Nigeria, Cotton Association Of Nigeria and Cocoa Association of Nigeria among other commodity groups as the focus of the call, adding that food processors and merchants would also benefit from the exercise.
The Managing Director/CEO recalled the mandate handed down by President MuhammaduBuhari toselected government organs to halt the rising domestic food prices and stated that the Presidential mandate was an opportunity for actors in the Nigerian agro-commodities sector to enhance their business activities in NCX.
She called on Nigerian investors to patronize NCX in order to improve their business in the various segments of agribusiness, adding that in the same vein,state and local governments in the country as well as major commodity groups and associations across the country stood to benefit from the envisaged activities in the Exchange.
Participants commended NCX on the initiative and called on government to do even more to support farmers and producers to enhance their agribusiness operations in the various segments of the sector.
The Secretary of All Farmers Association, AFAN, in Ogun state, Prince AbiodunOgunfumi who spoke on behalf of the state chairperson, AlhajaGaniyatKuchimo, pledged the support of the farmer associations and cooperatives in Ogun state to NCX activities in Ogun state.
The representative of Aniset Integrated Services Limited who organized the workshop, Mr. UcheChukwu, urged the participants to strive towards implementing the lessons learned from the exercise as a means of improving their socio-economic wellbeing as well as the economic fortunes of the state in particular and the nation at large.
The workshop participants were drawn from cooperative associations of major commodities such as All Farmers Association of Nigeria, sesame seed, soya beans, maize, cashew and cotton, among others.
