Ogun State Police Command has arrested a fleeing kidnap suspect, Usman Aliyu, who alongside his gang allegedly killed two abductees.
The gang killed Fakorede Kazeem at Kipe village, Idi oriAbeoku on October 7. and also killed 65-year-old, Festus Famurewa at Soyooye, Abeokuta after collecting ransom for his wife’s release.
It was learnt that Aliyu escaped arrest of the police after two members of his gang were nabbed in Onigbedu forest of Ewokoro Local Government Area.
But he was later arrested on December 14 following an intensive combing of the forest by the police operatives due to an information received that he was on a commercial motorcycle at Onigbedu and moving toward Lagos State.
The Police Public Relation, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.
Oyeyemi said that upon the information, the DPO Ewekorodivision, CSP Sunday Opebiyi, quickly mobilized his men on stop and search along that road and the suspect was subsequently identified and promptly arrested.
“On interrogation, he confessed been a member of the kidnap gang, whose two members were earlier arrested and a victim rescued from them.”
“He informed the police that they were six in number, and that when two amongst them were apprehended, the other members ran into different directions in the forest”.
“But since policemen are not relenting in searching for them in the bush, he decided to come out and take a commercial motorcycle out of that vicinity.” The Police PRO said
He said the suspect confessed further that it was his gang that was responsible for the kidnap of one Owolabi Abiodun and one Fakorede Kazeem at Kipe village, Idi ori, Abeokuta on October 7 2022, but Kazeem was killed because he was unable to walk fast while they were being taking away in the bush.
The Police Image Maker said that the suspect also confessed that his gang was responsible for the kidnap of two minors -Adekunle Esther,10, and Adekunle Adebayo,15, at OlomoweweStreet, rounder, Abeokuta on October 10
“He confessed further that, on the 19th of October 2022,the gang kidnapped one Mrs Famurewa at Abule Ijaye Soyooye Abeokuta at the entrance of their house after killing her 65 years old husband, one Festus Famurewa and later released the wife after collecting ransome.”
“Also, on the 16th of November 2022, the duo of Olatunji Azeezand Osoba Moroof were kidnapped by the same gang at Olujobitown Itori but were later set free after collecting ransome.”
“All the victims including the two kids have come forward to toidentify the suspects as those who abducted them” Oyeyemiadded.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, thanked members of the public for supporting the police by giving them necessary information, assuring that other members of the gang will be fished out.
