There is palpable tension on Sunday night as the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it has postponed the screening of all the presidential aspirants scheduled to take place on Monday, May 23 indefinitely.
This was disclosed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka in a statement obtained by Standard Times Nigeria.
He said a new date for the screening exercise would be announced by the party.
The statement read in part, “The Screening Exercise for Presidential Aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier scheduled to be held on Monday, May 23rd, 2022, is hereby postponed.
“A new date for the exercise will be announced shortly. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”
A source who pleaded anonymity said the postponement of the exercise is suspicious as it fuels suspicious about “hidden agenda” of the top hierarchy of the party in foisting a consensus candidate on the party.
While warning that such attempt may cost the ruling party of victory at the poll, he advised the party leadership and President Muhammadu Buhari who is the leader of the party to allow for free and free primary election.
