The Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna has been relieved of his duties owing to financial mismanagement and serial display of incompetence and had been immediately replaced by Mr Abba Abubakar Aliyu.
The extent of corruption and the need to save the distribution company from further financial embarrassment has also prompted its take over by Fidelity Bank and the appointment of Aliyu.
A terse message from a top management of the company sent reads in parts: “Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has been taken over by Fidelity Bank and the MD, Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna has been sacked for financial mismanagement. Mr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu had been appointed as the new MD/CEO with immediate effect.
When Gwamna took over the mantle of leadership in KEDCO, his promise of making it a foremost power distributing company in the world with customer’s satisfaction a priority has been a fluke, with nothing to show for it.
The epileptic power supply from the distribution company has continued with the erstwhile MD not showing capacity to improve the situation, coupled with zero motivation for the workforce.
Another source disclosed that the embattled MD abandoned his duties in a quest to be the Governor of Gombe State and queried how a man who could not manage a company thinks he could run a state.
