The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, CP Lanre Bankole has sounded a note of warning to cult members in the state to relocate or face unimaginable onslaught the command will visit on them soon
Bankole equally said that the command has set up a special operation squad to tackle the activities of members of the cult groups in the state.
This follows the recent cult clash between Eiye and Aiye Confraternities that claimed 15 lives in Abeokuta and Sagamu areas of the state respectively
The CP, who disclosed this on Friday, said that the command decided to set up the squad to clamped down the nefarious activities of the cult members in the state.
This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital
Bankole, who said that the command cannot fold its arms and watch the cult members made life unbearable for the law abiding citizens of the state, ordered the squad to fish out and deal with perpetrators according to the full wrath of the law
He said the squad will be coordinated by the Assistant commissioner of Police Department of operations, and they have been mandated to clamp down on any member of the groups.
The statement read partly, “Following the recent cult related clashes in Abeokuta and some parts of Ogun state, the Ogun state police command in order to checkmate the activities of members of these unlawful cult groups have set up a special operation squad to tackle the problem headlong.”
“The squad whose operation will be coordinated by the Assistant commissioner of Police department of operations, is saddled with responsibility of quick response to any cult related issues and will be operating 24 hours of the day.”
“The commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, while addressing the squad, mandated them to fish out members of the trouble making cult groups in any part of the state and deal with them in accordance with provision of the law.”
“The CP who described the activities of the cult groups as unacceptable, directed the squad to clamp down on any known member of such groups because the command will not fold her hands while disgruntled elements will be making life unbearable for the law abiding citizens of the state.” It added
He, however, warned parents and guardians to call their wards to order as the battle against cultists is going to be vicious in days to come
Bankole also warned the cult groups in the state to relocate or ready to face the unimaginable onslaught that is going to be visited on them by the newly created squad and other policemen in the state.
He, therefore, assured law abiding citizens of their safety, appealing to them to inform the police whenever they noticed any strange gathering suspected to be that of cultists in their vicinity, noting that such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
