The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru has declared that no personal ambition or ego is greater than ensuring the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, urging APC members in Osun to support Governor Adeleke Adeleke.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council for President Tinubu’s re-election in Osogbo on Thursday, Basiru said party members must abide by the President’s decision to appoint Adeleke as his campaign coordinator in the state.
According to him, “There is no ambition or ego that is greater than ensuring President Bola Tinubu is re-elected. For us in Osun State, irrespective of our feelings, ambitions and scheming, we must abide by the vision of President Bola Tinubu and support Governor Ademola Adeleke to be successful in this exercise.”
He added, “It is in President Tinubu’s wisdom that he chose Governor Adeleke as his campaign coordinator in Osun.”
The APC National scribe, who described himself as the most senior political office holder in Southern Nigeria by virtue of his position, said he had to attend the event despite having another engagement in Kaduna.
“The Governor called me yesterday evening to inform me about this inauguration. I have an engagement in Kaduna State this afternoon, but I said I must be here this morning before proceeding to Kaduna because this is my base and we must prioritise it.
“Everybody who matters in Osun politics is here today. As the National Secretary of the APC, I am, by my position, the most senior political office holder in Southern Nigeria today,” he noted.
Basiru appealed to all political actors in the state to close ranks behind the governor to deliver massive votes for the President.
“I want to plead with all of us in Osun to come together and work with our Governor, irrespective of our political party, and support him to deliver a massive victory for the President,” he said.
He added that President Tinubu’s economic reforms have boosted resources available to sub-nationals.
“It is very imperative for us to support the President to succeed for a second term. Today, the resources now available to sub-nationals, like Osun, have made it possible for us to meet our current expenditure,” Basiru concluded.
