Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned the Lagos Land Archive, a facility designed to preserve hardcopy land records alongside electronic data for easier access and management of land information.
The Governor commissioned the archive on Wednesday as part of activities marking GIS Day 2026.
He said the project has positioned Lagos as having the largest land information storage facility in West Africa.
“Lagos is a city that is constantly growing and changing and to plan well for its future, we must understand it through accurate information,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He disclosed that he also toured the e-GIS offices, including the Physical Planning and Automation Department, Survey Information Centre, GIS Centre and the Office of the Surveyor-General.
According to him, the tour showed how technology is being deployed to improve decision-making in land administration, physical planning, infrastructure and development.
“For a city of our scale, better information means better planning and better service to Lagosians,” the Governor added.
