Federal High Court sitting in Gusau on Monday has nullified the previous consensus primary elections conducted by INEC and All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara North Senatorial District.

The nullification was announced by the presiding judge, Justice Hassan Dikko, while delivered the ruling after about two hours of hearing, during which he considered the written addresses and arguments adopted by the plaintiffs and defendants.

Justice Dikko ruled that a fresh APC primary election should be conducted in the senatorial district within 14 days.

Recalled that, during the just concluded APC Primaries, there was a consensus option generally considered by the party where all members were considered automatic candidates. But the case at Zamfara North Senitorial District was difference, being that, the current senator, Sahabi Ya’u has been on the seat for two terms without any tangible developmental evidence in the constituency.

Sahabi Ya’u was also of the Kaura axis who have dominated the Senitorial seat from the creation of Zamfara state till date without leaving any chance for Shinkafi axis.

Without disrespect to the party as a party’s faithful, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi humbly called on the leadership of the party at the national and state level to consider his candidacy and give Shinkafi people a chance to represent the Senitorial District in this democratic season.

As a law abiding citizen of the land, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has sought his rights at court following a constituted legal process and now, the court has ruled in the right direction.

APC and INEC should allow Sahabi Ya’u Kaura and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi to stand the elections in their constituency and give a chance to the people and delegates of Zamfara North Senitorial District to vote their conscience.

In his reactions to the judgment, the APC senatorial aspirant, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, expressed appreciation to the court’s decision, saying it had restored people’s confidence in the judiciary.
